What is a Maticoor?

Maticoor is a pre-wedding tradition in Indo-Caribbean Hindu communities, held separately at the bride's and groom's homes the day before the wedding. Married women gather to dig up a small sample of clean earth as an offering to Mother Earth, praying for the couple's prosperity, while a pundit (Hindu priest) blesses a turmeric and saffron paste — known as haldi — which is then applied to the couple for purification and spiritual protection. It's a joyful celebration of community and love, and invited guests are welcome to join! Note: this is a vegetarian/non-alcohol event.

What Is A Vivah Sanskar?

Vivah Sanskar is the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony — think of it as the heart of the entire wedding celebration. A pundit (Hindu priest) guides the couple through a series of ancient rituals and vows that honor their union not just as a commitment, but as a spiritual and lifelong bond shared with family, friends, and God. In keeping with Hindu values, the celebration is fully vegetarian and non-alcoholic. The invited guests are welcome to witness and share in this beautiful tradition!

How to prepare for the Reception

The reception is the ultimate celebration of the newlyweds, a lively party where family and friends come together to eat, drink, and dance the night away! Come with your best energy and your best dance moves, as this is a fully alcoholic and non-vegetarian event.
